Kettlebells, Indian Clubs, Grippers and FMS

Posted on 08. Mar, 2010 by Tommy Blom.

Got a good session done today, about 50 min of solid work with Indian clubs, kettlebells and grippers. The work with Indian Clubs has helped my shoulders a lot, the movements helps the whole shoulder girdle to move more freely, it also increases the mobility in elbows and wrist (which can be good when one hits pads a lot an tenses up a lot to brace for impact)… Fighting shape is coming along fine, I’m around 89 kg now and will fight in -84 kg so it feels just fine… (more…)

Training for the fight

Posted on 07. Mar, 2010 by Tommy Blom.

Been training for my fight for a few weeks no and it feels really good. Since I got my opponent (Dennis Rau, 0-1-0) it all feels even more real and it makes me focus on the fight even harder. To get a face to focus on makes it a bit easier to focus mentally, to walk around knowing you’re about to fight without having someone to focus on is a bit uncertain.

I don’t know so much about my opponent, all I knownis that he stands like a southpaw on the picture, that he is a solid striker and that his PRO MMA record is 0-1-0. I have no idea about number of amateur fights, age, strengths and so on.

I do know that he steps into the cage as a professional fighter and I have to fight to the best of my abilities to make the fight. Nobody that steps into the cage under pro rules should be taken lightly.

I’m really happy that I can get into the cage and fight. All the support I’ve gotten since I signed up for the fight has been overwhelming and at the moment I just want to step into the cage and fight.

I have a lot of differnt ideas about my game plan but I’ll sit down and talk them through with my coach Åke Bergvall next week and make it a solid plan, Åkes help, support, teaching, coaching is awesome.

I’m truly happy to have so many talanted and experinced fighters around me that helps out with sparring, coaching and alway stops to help out and fix a problem they see.

Last week I got my first sponsor fo the fight, it’s an awesome restaurant named Ölrepubliken (www.olrepubliken.se).they’ve got awesome food and a loooot of different beers, if you like beer that’s not your average pint… Ölrepubliken is the place to for you!

That’s it for now, another coffe for me and then some rest before next session at 17:00

How is your base?

Posted on 16. Feb, 2010 by Tommy Blom.

The base, what’s that? Well depending on who you talk to the base is different things. What I’ll talk about is the base of your feet, the place where all your weight is when standing up/walking/running/jumping/fighting/dancing… Whatever you’re doing the feet is the base of your structure and therefore we have to treat them as that… the base. I’ve been resting since Thursday now, felt a bit cold and thought it might be a good idea. Now with the rest behind me I can tell that that was what was I needed to hit the training hard again.

Tomorrow morning I’ll get myself a session with Åke Bergvall who has been seen in The Zone and some other MMA fights over the years, with 21 MMA fights Åke is a steady rock to train with, full of knowledge and experience… Will be a great help in the journey towards the new cage on the 27/3.

Here’ the promo video for The Zone FC ‘Evolution’

Jesper Gunnarsson posted some photos of the new cage and it looks awesome, 8 m across… awesome!

Well, tomorrow its back to the gym to attack the cast iron weights and train with Åke in the morning, in the evening I’ll teach Krav Maga, life’s great :)

Signing for a fight – some thoughts

Posted on 03. Feb, 2010 by Tommy Blom.

A few days ago I signed for a professional MMA fight at The Zone FC Evolution that will be held in Lisebergshallen in Gothenburg, Sweden on the 27th of March. A lot of things change… the mental state of the mind starts to focus and everything feels more “real” now. It’s a really interesting feeling that makes me think of the intensity of the last days before the fight and at the fight day itself… at the moment I feel really excited to prepare for the fight and even more excited to get in the cage and fight… I have no idea how it’ll feel when fight night comes but that’s all part of the adventure of signing up for the fight.

Teaching Krav Maga Has started to feel even more intense now, I feel much more alert and ready to teach and share KM to my students, who has shown a great support since the news came out. Than you so much for the support to everyone at www.kravmagaacademy.se, see you at the gym!

My training will consist of MMA-training, physical training with Kettlebells and FMS-work to open up my body and increase my fundamental movement patterns.

I will fight in -84 kg and it feels good, my weight is on track for the fight. The weight cut is another thing that is completely new to me, it also adds to the whole experience.

Tomorrow will be kettlebell training and MMA traning with the fighters in Team Tenacity, can’t wait to go train!

BTW… Sponsors are welcome ;)

Pro Fight at The Zone Evolution

Posted on 28. Jan, 2010 by Tommy Blom.

Today i signed up for my first Pro MMA fight (actually my first MMA fight ever), it’s a big step for me and I see it as a challenge for myself to test myself against a professional fighter that is preparing for the fight. It’ll be a hard challenge no matter who my opponent will be and the only thing I can do is prepare as much as possible and as professional as possible to give myself the best chance I can to win the fight. Varför namnet Courage Corner?

“Every Russian military unit, even outposts as remote as the planet Mars, has a gym. For some strange reason, maybe because it makes your sweaty basement dungeon look like a yuppie health spa, it is called a “Courage Corner”. Every courage corner, including the permafrost-crusted cave in one of the units I served in, is equipped with kettlebells.”

-Pavel Tsatsouline, The Russian Kettlebell Challenge

Namnet är till för att sporra deltagarna att pressa sig själva lite mer och se till att man driver sig själv framåt med sin träning, fysiskt och mentalt.

tveka inte… utmana dig själv… kliv in i vårt Courage Corner!

Been teaching and training the last week and it feels great to be back inn the roll again. The Krav Maga is moving on and there is a lot of new people in the continuation groups, rally nice to see them all together with the “old” students.

My own training has been consisting of the double military presses with 24 kg kettlebells, all of them has been in the following format. Double kettlebell presses (24+24 kg) 3 x 2, 2, 2. Each rung started with a double kettlebell snatch and every ladder ended with 5 kettlebell front squats. (more…)
